Private Housekeeper & Cook Job in York and the Lake District
Location: York, North Yorkshire, with travel to the Lake District

We are recruiting an experienced private housekeeper and cook to look after two private homes, one in York and one in the Lake District. Reporting to the Principal and their Executive Assistant, you will work with a small, dedicated team and take ownership of the day-to-day running of both households.
About the Housekeeper Role
Your time will be divided between the York and Lake District properties as needed. Accommodation is provided in the Lakes for overnight stays (usually one or two nights per week).
Housekeeper Responsibilities
- Keeping both homes clean, tidy and organised to a high standard
- All laundry, ironing and linen care, including organising linen cupboards
- Managing and restocking household and cleaning products
- At the York property, preparing breakfasts and evening meals, and batch cooking so there are meals ready in the fridge
- Monitoring the general upkeep of both properties and reporting anything that needs a tradesperson
- Working to a daily, weekly and monthly schedule, and managing household tasks independently once settled in
Desirable: Gardening
A love of gardening would be great. Light outdoor upkeep includes raking leaves, trimming flowers, mowing the lawn and looking after the outdoor furniture. Nothing extensive, just keeping things tidy.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a housekeeper in a private household
- High standards of cleaning and meticulous attention to detail
- Strong cooking skills, ideally with batch cooking experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Organised, discreet and able to work independently
- Full driving licence essential, to travel between the two locations
- Available for occasional weekend work
- Based in or around York (ideally)
- DBS check and references required
