Silks Luxury Lifestyle is seeking an exceptional Senior Governess / Educational Mentor for a wonderful UHNW family based in Chigwell, Essex.
This is a fabulous opportunity for an experienced Governess, Private Tutor or qualified Secondary Teacher looking for a highly rewarding private household role, supporting a bright and engaging 16-year-old boy as he embarks upon his A Levels.
This is far more than simply an A Level tutoring position. The family is looking for someone warm, intelligent and highly organised who can take an overview of his education, keep everything beautifully on track and become a trusted mentor and positive influence as he moves towards university and adulthood.
The Role
As Senior Governess / Educational Mentor, you will take responsibility for overseeing the young person’s wider educational picture, ensuring he has the structure, resources and support needed to reach his potential.
You will liaise closely with his school and existing tutors, oversee homework, coursework, deadlines and examinations and ensure he remains organised and prepared for all academic commitments.
Importantly, you are not expected to personally tutor every A Level subject. A key part of this position will be recognising where additional academic support may be beneficial, sourcing excellent subject-specific private tutors when required and coordinating their involvement.
You will also provide support around university choices, applications and personal statements, whilst encouraging good study habits, confidence and increasing independence.
Beyond academics, the family would love someone who understands the importance of balance. You will encourage exercise and extracurricular interests, help maintain a healthy routine and provide the consistency and guidance that can be so valuable during these important teenage years.
The role will also include driving to school, appointments and activities and preparing simple, fresh and nutritious meals, as there is no chef working during these hours.
The Candidate
We are looking for someone bright, nurturing, engaging and exceptionally organised, with the confidence and personality to build a genuine rapport with a 16-year-old whilst maintaining appropriate structure and boundaries.
A Secondary PGCE is essential, alongside a strong understanding of the UK education system, A Levels and university applications.
Previous experience working as a Senior Governess, Private Tutor, Educational Mentor or Secondary Teacher would be highly relevant, together with experience supporting teenagers through important academic stages.
Experience within an UHNW or HNW private household is important, as is an understanding of the discretion, flexibility and professionalism required when working closely with a private family and alongside a fully staffed household.
You must be a confident driver, happy to relocate to Chigwell and comfortable around the family’s two outdoor dogs.
